Hebrangova 34.

Fine dining in Zagreb usually announces itself. Gallo doesn't. The restaurant sits at Hebrangova 34, behind the Castellum facade, in a courtyard you have to be told about. Inside: an open kitchen, tables in brick and wood, a cellar of 85 labels. The fish arrives whole from the Adriatic and the pasta is rolled by hand, every day, since 2002. The room does the talking. The kitchen does the rest.

— Chapter 01 —

A kitchen with nothing to hide.

The kitchen is open to the dining room. You watch the pass from your table — fish shown whole before it is cooked, pasta rolled the same morning.

— Chapter 02 —

A chef who took the long way home.

Siniša Gallo cooked at Osteria Francescana, Disfrutar, Gaggan, Restaurant 108 and Mérito before taking over this kitchen in 2025. The names are enough.

— Chapter 03 —

Fish that arrives whole.

Adriatic fish, chosen and weighed before cooking. Seafood mains from €35; gregada of fresh fish at €125 per kilo, for the table.

— Chapter 04 —

Wine, narrowed to one.

Eighty-five labels: Tomac and Korak from Plešivica, Krauthaker from Slavonia, Coronica from Istria — then Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne. The sommelier reads the table and brings the bottle.

— Chapter 05 —

One dish carries the name.

Rooster with mlinci — Gallo con mlinci, €35. A traditional Croatian dish under an Italian name, an homage to the house itself.

The hand changes. The address remains.

Beautiful indoor setting for exceptionally attentive service and Michelin-quality food. The warm mushroom salad was one of the best things I ate during our 10-day trip.

Excellent food, very professional service, good local wine, homemade pasta, Michelin recommended, not expensive. What more can you ask?
